Key Info
This 2-disc "special edition" is probably the nicest package ever delivered to a 6-show, cancelled cartoon series. There is about a good half hour of suppliments, new intros by Jay and Silent Bob to each show, and a running commentary over each of the six episodes. Very crisp colors, nice menus, and only a couple glitches I spotted. The extras weren't overly heavy in content or length, which made excellent companion pieces to the shows. Although cartoons are very easy to watch, only having six means that this'll stay on my shelf for a while before I forget enough to warrant another viewing.
Audio Commentary
The audio commentary is provided for every episode, and is done by Kevin Smith, Scott Mosier, Dave Mandel, Chris Balley, Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, and Jason Mewes. It's got ups and downs, seeing as the three hours are mainly spent bashing ABC and outlining how the show came to be and came to be cancelled. Some very funny stuff in here, including a running slam of Korean art director Ho, who apparently kept messing things up. If you're looking for actual comments on the shows being seen, those are few and far between. I did really enjoy the ideas they listed for the (not now) possible future episodes, and many in-jokes (along with racy jokes that got past the network censors).
Jay and Silent Bob Intros
Animatics
The animatics bonus feature compares the running episode with storyboards (which sometimes go hand in hand, and sometimes are widely different). You can flick back and forth between the storyboards and the episode with the angle button (the normal sound plays). This is very interesting (if you're bored and a nerd), and is basically another three hours of video material.
Film Festival Trailer
This outright hysterical trailer is laden with clips from the show, profanities, and mocks ABC's handling of the series. One of the best bits included is where they show anti-Clerks quotes with the voiceover, "Critics have spoken without having seen it!" And finally someone else hates Ain't It Cool News as much as I do.
Superbowl TV Spot
The 30-second "no dialogue" promo shown after the 2000 Superbowl.
The Clerks Style
A mini-documentary, the creators go through drawings and cartoon styles of Clerks, tracing its development and personality. It's only three and a half minutes long, but the different types of Clerks drawings make it worth checking out.
Character Development
A longer documentary (visualized with many clips from the show and more drawings) gives perhaps the most comprehensive background on the creation of the series. It's cool to see how long they agonized over how the characters should look to echo the characters in the movies (clips from Clerks are shown).
Other Snoogans
There's some DVD rom stuff here and a "Sneek Peaks" section that has trailers for Clerks, Chasing Amy, A Hard Day's Night, and Princess Mononoke.
