Death, like the morbid desire to watch films with Pauley Shore in, sneaks up on us all sooner or later. Like a giant invisible sack full of feathers, it can drop on us at any time, completely smothering us, and causing shock and confusion in those around us. However, sometimes (or just about every time if Hollywood is to be believed) people are granted the chance for their last words in this life to be something other than “Arggggghhhhhhh”. This quiz commemorates those film characters who have had foresight to prepare something other than “No, please do hit me with that” as their final utterance.
There are 33 questions in all, and one article-exclusive bonus question which should give you a nice round score out of 100 when you check your answers way down below (no peeking). When run on our oh-so-popular and filled-with-fantastic-witty-and-insightful-people forums, our forum regulars managed to rapidly dissect my efforts, with forum mastermind Landatauron taking top honours in the guessing-correctly category, with other mini-mutants HeyCreepy and JenFraser snapping at his heels, and respectable showings for fellow mutants Alex and Poolman as well. Forum-expatriot Vorlina also managed a fine effort (with a little help from her office) via email as well. Finally, before we proceed to the questions, visitors to our forums may see that the original version of this quiz had 40 questions, rather than the 33 presented here - surely that kind of exclusive Mutant content is every reason for you to rush over there and sign up now! Anyhow, on with the questions - remember, character name, film, how they died, one point for each:
Go! Q1) “I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain. Time to die.” Q2) “Sometimes I'm afraid of what you might tell me. Sometimes I'm afraid that you'll tell me that this is not a work of fiction. I can only hope that the answers will come to me in my sleep. I hope that when the world comes to an end, I can breathe a sigh of relief, because there will be so much to look forward to.” Q3) “What’s that smell?” Q4) “Man, I don’t even have an opinion....” Q5) “Told you I was never going back” Q6) “He is the chosen one... train him!” Q7) “Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do, I’m half crazy, all for the love of you....” Q8) “The horror....“ Q9) “Er... help. Need a little help.” Q10) "So I'm sorry if I spoiled your wedding plans there, friend; but if it's any consolation, you have put a smile on my face."
Q12) "Maybe they don't show up on infa-red at all..." Q13) "I'm sorry I didn't help you... I can try to help you now..." Q14) "I beat you” Q15) "I like it because it's simple.... I have to go, Nick. We'll have a drink." Q16) "My rifle is my best friend! I must master it as I master my life..." Q17) "No. Don't leave me here. Give it to me." Q18) “You were on my list; a part of my perfect world. And for that I thank you.” Q19) “Good shot, Green... very good...” Q20) “I would have followed you, my brother, my captain, my king” Q21) “Now hold up your badge - let them know that you’re a cop.” Q22) “Thou, wretched boy, shalt with him hence.” Q23) “Strap on his armour. Conceal the wound.” Q24) “Hello. Tell me your address there.” Q25) “I got the better end of the deal; I lent you my body -- you lent me your dreams. Not until you’re upstairs.” Q26) “Blue. No, yellow.....” Q27) “Tell your sister... you were right.” Q28) “Peer pressure... I’m way to sensitive.” Q29) “You’re so smart, right Jack? I’ve got the plan! I’m smarter than you, Jack. I’m smarter than you!” Q30) “It’s a song about a cop who meets his worst nightmare -- a black man with enough political juice to crush his ass like a stink-bug. I’m gonna make you famous.” Q31) “I’ll be damned... this is funny.” Q32) “I would rather be a ghost, drifting by your side, as a condemned soul, than enter Heaven without you. Because of your love... I will never be a lonely spirit.” Q33) “Until the day... till all are one...” And the bonus question: Out of all those quotes, how many of the character continue to have lines in the film AFTER they’ve died?
