The Mutant
Vol 2 Issue 8 Clerks Coverage

WE'RE SORRY, PLEASE SPANK US **************************************

A couple brief apologies/explanations before we launch into this week's
"Mutant." First of all, we do realize that Gene Siskel has passed away,
and that our banner stating "They give Siskel and Ebert Hives" is probably
not so PC anymore. Plus Kym's dead. I keep forgetting that. So we will
have a new banner created soon.

Also, I apologize that the past few Mutants have been, er, lacking on
actual articles. We are going to attempt to make up for that by spending
the next few issues focusing on a popular cult film, and how it's still in
the news today. This issue is "Clerks."

        NEED YOUR CLERKS FIX? *********************************

For the Clerks fans out there who crave more of their favorite movie, we
at the MRFH have been doing a bit of research and uncovered some great new
        Clerks newsbits!

First of all, there's been a terrific spoof trailer on Clerks and Troops.
It's called "Trooper Clerks", and you can download the trailer for free
        off of Studio Creations' site
        (http://www.studiocreations.com/trooperclerks/).

Here's something I never thought I'd see. ABC is finalizing a deal to buy
six animated episodes of Clerks! It's slated for a midseason/fall 2000
launch, and will be executive produced by Kevin Smith. Smith says, "We’re
talking about being a bit surreal using the animation medium. I mean, why
bother doing animation unless you’re going to be wacky with it?" It won't
be as vulgar as the movie (of course), but it promises to be pretty funny.

Both Clerks (May 1999) and Mallrats (Summer 1999) are slated to be
released this year on DVD with a ton of extra stuff, including lost
scenes, commentary, and behind the scenes features. On Sept. 11 of last
year, Mallrats was aired on primetime with a lot of additional scenes.
You can view these scenes at http://www.viewaskew.com/tv/abcrats/.

Kevin Smith has helped to create a number of Clerks comic books, including
        the original one at http://www.viewaskew.com/jsbstash/va.html#clerkscomic.
        I gotta read this!

That's about it for this week! Adventure, excitement, a Mutant Reviewer
        craves not these things...
