![]() A banner PoolMan did for Christmas a while back. I just love the Christmas boxers on Kyle's head.
Speaking of Christmas, here's a banner I simply made from a Nightmare Before Christmas picture. I used this for December's title banner in 2003 and 2004.
I liked this concept — making the title banner look like a movie theater electronic marquee — but it just didn't look spiffy enough to stay up on the front page for long. Note that we're "PG-13", the unofficial self-rating we've long since given our website.
Well! Not much more to say!
Obviously, I was on drugs. I don't remember why I did this banner, other than the fact that I liked the idea of using weird Japanese symbols for "movie crazy monkey" or something like that.
2004's title banner. I really liked how this turned out (I know, I'm no graphic wizard, but I like to have fun with cut and paste). Especially how Bill and Ted are dead center.
PoolMan created this and posted it the couple weeks I was gone in summer 2004 and he was running the site. See, this is why you never give psychotics keys to the car.
January 2005's title banner. I really loved the Nightmare banner, and so I wanted to try something similar in design, where each month in 2005 would feature a new banner that was simply a cropped (large) picture of a cult film. Obviously, this one is The Breakfast Club. Very action-packed. (This month featured a movie from the 80's)
February 2005's title banner. I took a screenshot of Dade and Kate from Hackers, then edited most of the shot out to just leave their faces looking at a computer screen. Also made the MRFH title semi-3D. (This month featured a movie from the 90's)
March 2005's title banner. Is Finding Nemo too kiddy to be featured as a main banner for our website? Ah, who cares... I just love how the fishies look both ways in fear at our tremendously inspiring name. (This month featured a movie from the 2000's)
April 2005's title banner. Star Wars. Buttercup, on the forums, said, "I just wanted to say that I think the new banner at the top of the review page sure is spiffy. The spaceship is a nice touch." I replied, "Thanks. It's the Special Edition of that banner. In it, Greedo shoots first." (This month featured a movie from the pre-80's)
May 2005's title banner. It's actually really tough to find a picture from a movie that's usable when you crop it down six times as wide as it is high. But somehow, this picture from Princess Bride fell into my lap, and it worked out perfectly. I like how they're peering over at you. Peek-a-boo! (This month featured a movie from the 80's) |
