![]() April 2006's title banner. Just when I was stressing about pre-80's banner graphics, I found a load of high-rez pictures from 2001. Picked the Star Baby (or whatever it's called) for this... I kinda really like it. Sparkle in my eye. (This month featured a movie from the pre-80's)
May 2006's title banner. We began to vote in the forums to pick a movie for the next month's banner, and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure won hands-down. I very much enjoyed this banner — gotta have the Circle K! (This month featured a movie from the 80's)
June 2006's title banner. Empire Records dominated the votes this month, to the pleasure of many fans. It wasn't easy finding pictures from the film, but the movie's poster worked quite adequately for our purposes. (This month featured a movie from the 90's)
July 2006's title banner. Sin City is a terrific movie, visually, and it was tough to pull just one shot... but I loved this overhead view of Mr. Willis in prison. The Sin City font sealed the deal. (This month featured a movie from the 2000's)
August 2006's title banner. Moulin Rouge! I abandoned the decade-per-month plan (finding 70's flicks were just too tough), and decided to go with our favorite wacky musical. This month I experimented with layering the title font between the background and the foreground (dancers). I think it came off well.
September 2006's title banner. Chicken Run. Although I'm mostly pleased with this, there were two problems. One, half of September was Superhero Week, which doesn't go well with chickens screaming at the top of the page. Two, I kinda went nuts with the layering thing.
October 2006's title banner. Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. Actually, the movie I was going to do — Back to the Future — ended up costing me two hours of nerve-fraying time, and it never did look good. This? This took five minutes, start to finish.
November 2006's title banner. Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban. I was having difficulties with Paintshop Pro at this time, and couldn't resize a mammoth picture of Harry and company. So I ended up just using a slice of the big picture, and the Harry Potter book font. I think I liked it. Yay pumpkins!
December 2006's title banner. A Christmas Story. The rifle in the picture is as near to the actual Red Ryder yadda yadda rifle as I could find online. I added the quote underneath to avoid dead space, but I think it ties in with the gun and the picture of Santa shooting Ralphie down.
January 2007's title banner. Shrek 3. As you can tell, I increased the title banner size this month to go along with our new front page format — nothing crazy, just a little wider and a little taller. I pulled this graphic from a Shrek 3 promotional wallpaper and removed the squigglys from the background.
February 2007's title banner. Batman Begins. Originally, I screwed up with this one; I did it in the older, smaller format, along with a red, solid font for the MRFH words. A day after I posted it, I retooled it to make it bigger and do a little bit of crazy shadow words with the font (the font is the old 1960's Batman font, by the way). Perfect for the Dark Knight. |
