MRFH Title Banners

March 2007's title banner (Pirates of the Carribean 2). Fun picture of Captain Jack. I've been doing more experimenting with the fonts I use, trying to "theme" them into the picture. The text here actually uses two different pirate fonts — one for the bulk of it, and another for the skull & crossbones dingbat.

April 2007's title banner (Mirrormask). Mirrormask has the look and feel of old-timey photographs, which I kind of love. I'm betting this banner won't be everyone's taste, and I'm not entirely sure I give it full approval, but there you go. I decided to downplay the title font this month, just because.

May 2007's title banner (Happy Gilmore). Pretty straight-forward — I liked this shot, and with just a little cut 'n paste, I was able to extend the grass green to the edge. The font used is "I Suck At Golf".

June 2007's title banner (Better Off Dead). BOD is such an essential 80's flick that it demanded its own banner, so here it is! The picture of Lane's garbage trip isn't perfectly crisp, but remember that in the film it's not very close and is in constant motion, so hopefully this is okay. I went with a scribbly, vaguely 80's font, and put the semi-unreadable tagline of "...throwing out perfectly good white boys since 1985".

July 2007's title banner (Monsters Inc.). I think I underestimated how much this picture/scene resonated with our die-hard Monsters Inc fans out there — I was more worried it was too dark or lifeless. However, it seemed to be well-liked, and I was happy to find the Monsters Inc. font (yay for the "M" in "Mutant"!).

August 2007's title banner (Serenity). With the foreknowledge that the first week of the month would be witness to Whedon Week, I scrambled to find an appropriate-themed picture from Serenity. It was a toss-up between this and an extreme close-up of River's eye, but I decided to go with the full-on Serenity shot here. Found a font that was similar to the Serenity font (Papyrus).

September 2007's title banner (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Soul). We had a lot of requests for this movie to be made into a head banner, which it was and promptly got no comments. I can only assume those fans were out sick for the month. Or that this wasn't the best banner I ever made, especially since I couldn't get that darned ice to extend the full length. Bah!

October 2007's title banner (Silence of the Lambs). I used a different graphic initially, posted it, then realized it was faaar too dark on most monitors. So I did a rare switcharoo a few days into October, and ended up with a different banner of Hannibal Lecter looking hungrily at you.

November 2007's title banner (E.T.). Despite this movie not being on our site (yet), I knew that sooner or later this iconic shot from E.T. would be used for banner-making purposes. Plus, I'd just gotten back from vacation and was in a rush to get any banner up. I particularly enjoyed the funky font used for this one.

December 2007's title banner (Die Hard). Why does it always have to be vents? I didn't want to crop any of this picture of John McClane slithering around HVAC components, so I copied in a bit of brushed steel and decided to go large, T2ish for the font.

January 2008's title banner (Edward Scissorhands). Edward doesn't get much graphic space here, but I really liked the striking images of his ice sculptures, and apparently so did some of our readers. Plus... I'm addicted to blue/black as a color combination.

February 2008's title banner (V For Vendetta). I do have a soft spot for top-down pictures (especially since they fit well in this limited format), and Ms. Portman's rain shot was a shoo-in for use. I had a lot of qualms with the font, since I wanted it to go hand-in-hand with the rain and not dominate on top of it. In the end, I put Natalie on top of the graphics, which hopefully look as though they're under the rain as well.
